Rus Outpost

From the cold reaches of the great city of Novgorod, The Varangian princes developed their land to begin the rise of the all powerful country you call Russia. This scene is explores an early medieval developing settlement, set in around 988-1100 AD. A lot of the architecture and environment is based from early Russian and Nordic influences.

For this scene, I relied a lot on references/ reading up history to try and recreate a time period in civilisation which is not explored that much by western artists. In terms of video game influences, I took inspiration from The Witcher 3 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance, to understand how medieval villages/towns are structured, as well as the placement of assets and small environment pieces.

This project has been really helped me to start branching out into Environment Art. I feel I have a much better understanding of further game engine mechanics, including lighting, terrain and post processing. Any additional feedback is very welcome!
